Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about that, medication.

And the more I thought about it the more I came to realise one thing.
Peoples are taking too many medication.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those crazy lunatics who thinks that vaccine doesn’t serve any purpose (someone please go and shout those idiots out of the gene pool).

But in our day and age, people are taking medication for every single thing, it’s so bad medication is actually an argument used to sell us food. FOOD !
Am I the only one who seems to realise that the human body NEED sugar and fat ? And that all those “light” prodcuts who say that they are eliminating all the fat and sugar in the food while keeping the taste is actually a big fucking load of crap ?

Fat and sugar aren’t dangerous when you don’t abuse it. No one ever got cancer from fat or sugar, but what about that light stuff ? What about those products they put inside to keep the same taste ?
Don’t you find it fishy that something can taste like sugar while not being sugar ?
Here is an exemple of a toxic compound which taste sweet, so sweet in fact that it was used as a replacement for sugar for centuries : Lead Acetate.

In any case, medication is really becoming a problem, people will take medication for every little scratch they have. That’s not really smart, the body has a immune system capable and handling such things, let it work. Medication should be used only when the body isn’t capable of handling the problem, or in the case of a psychiatric trouble, when the symptoms are debilitating.

Peoples make two assumptions when it comes to medication. First, they think they can decide themselves what medication is good. WRONG : auto medication is a good way of making sure you will get worse. I know it’s hard to believe but doctors study medecine for years for a reason, and the reason isn’t their shitty handwritting (altough sometimes I have to wonder).
Second, peoples think that if the symptom is gone, then they are cured, WRONG AGAIN. A symptom is a sign of a bigger problem, when the symptom goes away on it’s own it may be a sign that things are getting better but if you are taking a medication to make the symptom go away it doesn’t mean you’re getting better. Removing the work sign on a road doesn’t mean the work is done, it just mean that you’ve taken the sign away and now no one can tell easily if the work is done or not.

When you’re sick, don’t try to make your own diagnosis, call a doctor and take the medication or advice he tells you to take.

From time to time, my girlfriend and I will indulge into political debate of sorts, following those it dawned on me that I needed to express my opinion about anarchism clearly and why, in my sense, anarchist will never manage to have their system in place on a big scale.

Anarchism is simply the lack of hierarchical organisation and there are two reason why this can’t work : humans being are not equal (and certainly don’t see each other as such) and human beings are selfish.

Human beings aren’t equal, this is a fact and anyone telling you otherwise is full of shit. Don’t twist my meaning around, I never said that some human beings are more important than others. It is not the case, I’m saying that not everyone has the same skills and capabilities. Not everyone is “smart” enough to become a nuclear scientist, likewise, not everyone is good enough with their hands to become good plumbers. Each and everyone of us has some value, a skill to which we exell at. It’s just a matter of finding it. However this means that a hierarchy is necessery for us to function.

If you don’t set up a clear hierarchy, peoples who have no business dealing with some problem will try to interfere and get involved in things which are way over their head. I don’t know about you but I’d rather not have a farmer trying to get a voice into the technical aspect of a nuclear plant.

This is the first reason why true anarchy can’t be allowed to be put in place, true anarchy means that everyone is equal and can get is hands on every problem. This is not the case in reality. So true anarchy is not a good idea.

The second reason is that human beings are, by their very nature, selfish. It’s genetic, we can’t help it, every last one of us is built with this little thing called survival instinct. Our survival instinct mutated and adapted accross time turning into a full fledged ego. Peoples will naturally try to make their own life better and they usually don’t care if it means hurting someone else in the process. However, the reason why we don’t simply start killing each other is because we also have the urge to procreate and make sure our genetic code spread. Sometimes, when we can’t do it personally we have the urge to help someone with a close genetic code to ours tosurvive so they can procreate.

This is the reason why families exists in the first place and it’s also why racism exist. Racism is simply this urge pushed to an extreme. You try to help peoples geneticly close to you, meaning you try to help peoples who look like you, the flip side is that you also won’t help peoples who look different and even hurt them.

Of course not everyone is a racist, it would be stupid to think that. But every one is biased toward the peoples who look like you, or talk or act like you. We can’t help it, it’s genetic.
This doesn’t mean that it’s okay to be racist or hurting peoples because they are different. This should be fought with all our strenght. But because of that bias, a perfectly equalitarian society can’t exist. And our ego will always try to make sure we do better at life than most. Meaning the strong will be in control. It’s how life work, it’s natural and you can’t avoid it.

In fact this is what make us human in the first place, whitout ego or personal survival instinct or the urge to spread our genetic code around we wouldn’t have succeeded as a specie. In nature, there exist species whitout ego or personal survival instinct : ants and bees and thermites and wasp. But even them have a genetic spreading urge. Different species of ants will fight each other.
Whitout an ego and personal survival instinct, we would be litte more than drone working collectively to make sure our specie survive, while some will try to make it sound appealing by using words like world peace, harmony, a good life for everyone and such, you have to consider the price you’d have to pay for such a thing to be possible. Freedom of thought would be one of the first thing to go for an equalitarian society to work and even anarchists don’t want that. Next would be differences of any kind, be it skin color or musical taste. Then art would have to go since art is a form of personal expression. You can’t have that.

Anarchists want an equalitarian society while keeping a personal freedom. This is simply impossible, you can either have a flawed system like we have where personal freedom is still possible (less and less however, the ones governing don’t like peoples to think too much for themselves) at the cost of perfect equality, or you can have a system where equality reigns, at the cost of personal freedom. you can’t have both.

Third post of the day but first one with something to say.

Today, for all of you nongamer and for you fellow gamers I’m going to present to you the three types of gamers that I’ve identified. Now keep in mind that those are really broad category and that someone can easily fall in between them.

The first type of gamer I’m going to present to you is the casual gamer aka the Wii user
That guy (or gall) is interested in having a little fun, generally in a quick session which doesn’t take too much time, as such they don’t care about shiny graphics as much as they do about the fun. The casual gamer is becoming a bigger part of the videogame audience these days but some highscore gamer look at them as an invasive force, the story gamer generally couldn’t care less about them since they evolve in two completely different game.

The second type of gamer is the highscore gamer. That guy is interested in one thing, being the best at one game. Their natural environement is the online world where they can tests their might against each other. Their favourite games are more often than not FPS or some MMO (IE halo and World of Warcraft)
The highscore gamer is capable of spending an infinite ammount of time on one game to complete it totally, getting every secrets and bonuses and to compete with others. That is until the sequel is released at which point they completely ignore the original.
Those guys are badly seen by everyone, the casual gamers think they are getting too intensive about the game and the story player thinks they are, for the most part, idiots incapable of writting normally.

And here comes the third type of gamer, the one I’m more familliar with since I’m one myself : the story gamer. That guy likes shiny graphics sure, but it’s not the important thing. What matters to that guy is the content, the story of the game. As such, the story gamer is naturally attracted to RPG and repulsed by sports games. This guy is capable of spending an incredible ammount if time on one game to complete story but once it is done, he quickly lose interest in the game. That guy is mostly ignored by casual gamer since their world is so different, however, on the rare occasion where highscore gamer and story player find themselves playing the same game, those two groups will do all in their power to avoid playing together. In mmorpg for instance, it means they will form guiilds, some focused on having a strong group for highscore gamers and another focused on the RP for story players. It is important to know that a pure story player will express a strong demeaning opinion of the highscore gamer.

From my experience, the story gamers are among the hardest to please for the industry, casual gamers like having short session of fun, the highscore gamer will be pleased by a true and tried gameplay with shinny graphics, but the story player will only be satisfied by a good story. It goes as far that a game with a great gameplay but with little or no story will be ignored completely while a flawed game with a great story will be chosen in the blink of an eye.

Blogging, one of those nifty new words that seems to keep popping up with the advance and inovations of our modern age.
Blogging isn’t a natural process for me, I’m not usually the kind of person who enjoy writting, I am more of an image person.

Blogging was made even more difficult for me by my lack of knowledge or interest into blogging at large. Because of this I had but the most rudimentary idea of what I was supposed to do.
I had a particularly hard time figuring out how to change the title of this blog. Who had the remarkable idea of putting the setting button on the top right corner in such a small font when the top left is written so big ?

Anyway, blogging is a difficult process for another reason, a blog is by it’s very nature something rather volatile, it can be either a personal journal, a place where you express your thoughts or like the agora of ancient greece, a place where you express your political belief and news.

With such a vast array of possibilities came also a difficult choice : What type of blog did I want to create ?
The answer was rather difficult to determine until I decided that I would simply do it all.
Why did I decided that ? Well, my girlfriend convinced me to start this thing because she wanted a look at the inner working of my mind. Soon she will learn that my mind is a mess and skips from topic to topic faster than a Starwars fan can say “Han shoot first”.
There is however a peculiar type of blogging that I will do my best to avoid : the intimate journal.
I would find it rather disturbing to write about my feelings and emotions where anyone can read them. I’m a private person and it will stay that way thank you very much.
While I find it disturbing if I were to do it myself I can perfectly understand and respect why others feel a need to do so.

Finally blogging is difficult for me in part because I have a strong sense of competition which landed me into some difficult situation in the past.
But why is it relevant would you ask ? It is relevant because my girlfriend is maintaining a blog herself and frankly I believe her style (not to even talk about her grammar and spelling) are far superior to mine.
You can visit her blog here for an interesting take on politics and religion : http://bluelinchpin.wordpress.com/

Here I am, writing on a blog. I never would have thought it would happen but my girlfriend insisted and who am I to say no ?

Since this is my first post I should probably give a word of introduction to make sure you know where you landed and what this is all about.

My name is unimportant, but you can call me Berior (obviously).
I’m currently living in Belgium but am planing on getting to the USA soon, make no mistakes I don’t believe the US are better than my country, in fact if I didn’t had the best reason in the world to get to the USA I wouldn’t.
I’m 22 year old, and have vastly spreads interests ranging from videogames to genetics, classical music to rock, horror novels to science fictions movies. I will be talking about all those things and more. This is far from being a one trick pony blog and I’m sure most of you will be confused about it.
I’m rather cynical about the world and frankly I have no faith whatsoever into the human race.
If I had to label my beliefs, I would probably label them as a mix of socio-liberal anarchism with a big dose of existentialism.
Be warned that I’m also into BDSM and I will sometimes share my thought about it with you, but don’t worry I will keep the details to acceptable standards.
